CONSUMER GOODS

TRANSFORMING THE CONSUMER GOODS INDUSTRY

Automation Integration for Consumer Goods Manufacturing

Consumer spending in the United States accounts for more than $14 trillion annually, which is approximately two thirds of the U.S. GDP. A large portion of this spending is everyday consumer packaged goods—from foods and beverages to cosmetics and cleaning products (Do consumers care about sustainability & ESG claims? | McKinsey).

What does this mean for manufacturers in the consumer goods industry? Endless competition for consumer dollars, and endless opportunities to gain an edge by integrating automation solutions that uplevel your operation. Mission Design & Automation is here to help you evaluate your current business practices, areas for improvement, and identify, design, and integrate the best automated solution to grow your business. And, if you already have a solution in mind, Mission can take on the build and installation process, leaving the ideating and design to your team. Wherever you need us, we’re ready to plug in to help optimize your production.

BENEFITS OF AUTOMATING IN THE CONSUMER GOODS INDUSTRY

IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY CONTROL

Reduce the risk of human error and product contamination by integrating automated systems into your production. Robots will handle your materials with precision and efficiency, with end of arm tools designed to be product safe. No gloves needed. Advanced vision systems will perform quality checks, catching defects that the human eye might miss, ensuring top-notch quality for every product that leaves your shop. Take control of your brand’s quality and reputation by automating your processes. Lot traceability and data tracking systems ensure each batch and serial number can be traced automatically, supporting your quality assurance programs.

SCALE WITH PRODUCT DEMANDS

In the current day and age, it’s not uncommon for manufacturers to experience a sudden burst of orders or have one of their products go viral, introducing a sudden need to increase production. Automation allows you to easily scale your company, adjusting production speed for increased output, especially during peak seasons and other busy times, without having to go through significant hiring efforts to match demands or make big changes to your infrastructure.

GAIN EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY

Do you struggle to keep up with order surges or rising product demands? Do you have difficulty maintaining consistent production times and getting your products in the hands of consumers quickly? Integrating automation into your facility gives you the expected results, every day. Robots can handle repetitive tasks without having to take lunch breaks; your automated systems can continue producing output even when the lights are off and your workers are home for the night; and materials and products can continually flow through production on conveyors, AMRs, or other automated material handling without the risk of bottlenecks.

OVERCOME LABOR CHALLENGES

It’s no secret – consumer goods manufacturing comes with a host of job functions that are hard to hire for. With continued growth in consumer spending, the need to move quickly and improve efficiency is more relevant than ever. Implementing robotics and automated systems to handle tasks like product assembly, material flow and handling, quality checks, sorting, and packaging will remove the stress of interviewing and training cycles and allow you to put your best people where their skills will be most useful. Plus, higher-level tasks and less safety risks are likely to improve your employees’ satisfaction at your company, further improving their engagement and performance; it’s a win-win situation.

AUTOMATING THE FUTURE OF CONSUMER GOODS MANUFACTURING

TAKE THE NEXT STEP WITH AUTOMATION

Ready to transform your consumer goods operation? Mission Design & Automation is here to help you streamline processes, improve product quality, and drive efficiency through tailored automation solutions.

ACHIEVE EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY STANDARDS

Repetitive tasks can slow production and drain resources. When you implement automated systems to take on these responsibilities, they’re accomplished with speed and precision, significantly reducing your cycle times.

OPTIMIZE WORKFORCE UTILIZATION

Labor shortages and high turnover can disrupt operations. Automation mitigates these challenges by handling repetitive or physically demanding tasks, improving your employee experience, allowing your team to focus on more strategic responsibilities, increasing efficiency across the board.

ADVANCED APPLICATIONS IN THE CONSUMER GOODS INDUSTRY

Automated manufacturing systems custom-built for your production

ASSEMBLY LINE PRODUCTION

Does your assembly line production require an assortment of human hands, risking your products’ integrity and worker safety at each station? Eliminate the danger of human error or product contamination by automating your assembly line production. Conveyor systems can carefully transfer your materials from station to station, where robots, cobots, and vision systems perform their tasks in rapid, synchronized motions. These can include screwdriving, dispensing, attaching components, applying labels, performing quality checks, and more. At Mission, we’ll custom-build your assembly line to work at your preferred speed, allowing you to deliver top quality products, while reducing your costs and improving cycle times.

MATERIAL HANDLING & SORTING

Make sure your products are packaged, labeled, and delivered to the right place by automating your material handling and sorting processes. Conveyors, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), AMRs (Automated Mobile Robots), or robotic shuttles can help move material and finished products throughout your production space. Automated barcode readers, RFID sensors, and vision systems can scan and identify your products, tracking them from raw materials to finished products. Robotic arms and conveyor systems can pick and sort the consumer items into shipping bins, palletizing stations, storage areas, work-in-progress queues, and more based on their production stage.

VISION-GUIDED ROBOTICS

Ensure every product is packaged correctly, every label is placed in its designated spot, and products are sorted into their correct categories with vision-guided robotics. Integrating a vision system attached to a robot arm allows your materials to be inspected in real time, determining the robot’s next action. Utilizing image processing software, the robot’s camera may inspect position and orientation of items for efficient packaging; analyze product size and shape for object sorting; or scan barcodes and labels to identify the product data before moving it to its next location.
